NGO donates N1 million, medical items to Cross River State, UCTH, others

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), under the aegis of Ben Akak Foundation, has donated medical items, including sanitisers and N1 million, to the Cross River State Government in support of the fight against Coronavirus.

The organisation also donated sanitisers, hand-gloves and facemasks to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Navy Specialist Hospital and Port Medical Services wing of the Margaret Ekpo International Airport in Calabar.

The wife of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of Ben Akak Foundation, Mrs. Joseline Akak, who led the team yesterday to the first stop at the Ministry of Health while handing over the cash and items to the Commissioner, Dr. Betta Edu, said the gesture was to support government and individuals in the fight against COVID-19.

She said the organisation, which is non-political but geared towards humanitarian services, urged Cross Riverians to adhere to the guidelines of World Health Organisation (WHO) to stop the spread of the pandemic.

Edu, while commending the organisation for going beyond bounds to show kindness to humanity by donating the sum of N1million to the state government and supporting it with other medical items, said the fight against COVID-19 would only be achieved through joint interest.

Also, while receiving the team at the UCTH, Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (C-MAC), Prof. Ogbu Ngim, thanked the organisation for supporting the effort of the state governor to fight COVID-19.
