The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has suspended implementation of the new tariffs, which came into effect on June 1, 2019.
Chairman, Governing Council of NAFDAC, Inuwa Abdul-Kadir, who disclosed this yesterday said the status quo remains, while NAFDAC would continue to dialogue with critical stakeholders on the tariff review and other regulatory issues.
A statement by NAFDAC disclosed that the decision was reached after a stakeholders’ forum and meeting of the Governing Council, aimed at dousing tensions generated by the new tariffs, as stakeholders in the pharmaceutical, food and allied industries opposed the move.
Abdul-Kadir noted that part of the resolution was that all NAFDAC stakeholders affected by the new tariffs would henceforth revert to payment of the old tariffs until further notice.
He added that the Council considered the inputs of stakeholders in arriving at a new tariff regime, which would soon be released after doing the needful, including sensitising members of the public before it is implemented.
