The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) has condemned the worsening security situation in the country, lamenting that the menace has continued to spread and has become a source of major concern to Nigerians.
While addressing journalists yesterday at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), MDCAN President, Prof. Ken Ozoilo, who was accompanied by Secretary-General, Dr Moses Chingle, said there was the need to rejig the country’s security architecture to effectively combat the security situation.
Ozoilo argued that the re-organisation of the Nigerian Armed Forces was an important step towards reclaiming the country from those bent on keeping the citizens permanently disrupted.
He said the leadership of the country should not shy away from seeking assistance from other countries and international agencies to effectively fight terrorism.
He attributed the brain drain in the country’s medical sector to insecurity because doctors do not want to be kidnapped and urged the Federal Government and the armed forces to urgently tame insecurity before it was too late.
He commended the Federal Government and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and supply the COVID-19 vaccine, urging the populace to accept the vaccine as it had no adverse effects.
On selection of the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Ozoilo condemned the repeated interference of vested interests and external forces.
“Following the second process of the governing council, the appropriate organ of the university that should recommend candidates to the visitors, observers have adjudged the process to be thorough and credible.
“We advise the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, not to yield to cheap politics underpinning the petitions. He should remember that any process that excludes candidates based on doctoral degrees will plunge the institution into avoidable crisis and litigations,” he stated.
