… Nigerian ports are at the conclusive stages of the deployment of the port community system (PCS)—Dantsoho

By Prince Benson Davies

The Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, represented by the Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services, Engr. Ibrahim Abba, in Lagos, joined industry stakeholders to celebrate World Maritime Day 2024

Dantsoho, while acknowledging the significance of this year’s theme, “Navigating the Future: Safety First,” explained that it aptly captures the high-impact day-to-day contributions that the maritime sector makes to international trade and the global economy.

This role often comes at great exposure to risk, which we are all duty-bound to mitigate by adequately equipping the specialized sector that propels the world,”  the Managing Director highlighted.

He asks for every stakeholder to arise from the celebration with a stronger commitment to take actions that create a better world for this distinguished calibre of men and women who power the maritime sector.

On the impact of the seafarers who propel the maritime sector on our port ratings, the Authority last year urgently reconstructed and fully equipped the Mission to Seafarers facility in Lagos to regional best-in-class status to provide Shore Leave for Seafarers.

Realizing that automation is the linchpin of port efficiency, the Nigerian ports are at the conclusive stages of the deployment of the Port Community System (PCS), which sets the pace for the operationalization of the National Single Window Project.

This is in addition to the comprehensive modernization of port infrastructure and equipment to enhance competitiveness.

“I have said all of these to reiterate the unwavering commitment of the leadership and guidance of the Honourable Minister for Marine & Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, to the maximization of the opportunities inherent in our maritime endowments for the benefit of the good people of Nigeria and the larger world.”
