IPAC seeks full engagement of youths in politics

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) is to send to a proposal to the Ninth National Assembly compelling political parties to reserve 30 per cent of the membership of their national and state executive councils for youths to engender more participation in politics.

IPAC’s National Chairman, Chief Peter Ameh, at a roundtable dialogue on youth and politics organised by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, said young people should be mainstreamed into political party administration, adding that the expensive nature of the nation’s politics discourages youth participation.

He noted:  “There should be a mandatory clause that states that members of the NEC should have 30 per cent positions reserved for the youths in order to include youthful drive in political party administration. This should be one of the requirements in party registration process. Our election is too expensive and this discourages youth participation.”
