International Transport Workers Federation Ratifies Adeyanju’s Election As Vice President ITF Global, Others

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has announced the much-anticipated ratification of Comrade Adewale Adeyanju’s election as its president general at the 46th International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Congress in Marrakesh, Morocco.
At the ITF Africa Regional Conference, which was held in March 2024 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, Comrade Adeyanju was elected Vice President of ITF Global, Executive Board Member and Chairman of ITF, Africa Region, which have now been ratified by over 2,000 delegates representing 150 countries across the globe in this year’s African Regional Conference holding in October 2024.
According to a statement from the union, the appointments are a testament to Comrade Adeyanju’s progressive leadership style, dedication to advancing the rights of workers and his pivotal role in the global maritime sector.

“His election marks a historic moment for Nigeria and Africa, underscoring his ability to unite and champion the cause of workers on an international scale,” it stated.
As Vice President of ITF Global, Comrade Adeyanju will help steer the organization’s strategic direction, ensuring that the voices of transport workers worldwide are amplified.

His position as an Executive Board Member places him at the heart of critical decisions, while his chairmanship of the ITF Africa Region reinforces his commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by African transport workers and furthering the continent’s development.
“The MWUN and indeed the entire Nigerian labour movement celebrate this monumental achievement, recognizing Comrade Adeyanju as a beacon of excellence, resilience, and dedication to the cause of workers.

“His remarkable leadership continues to uplift the maritime industry in Nigeria and Africa at large, positioning it as a key player in the global transportation sector.
“We congratulate Comrade Adeyanju on this well-deserved ratification and pledge our continued support as he leads with wisdom and a progressive vision for workers worldwide,” the statement concluded.
