The Nigerian Shippers’ Council’s (NSC) Anti-Corruption and Transparency Monitoring Unit, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has taken an anti-corruption campaign to Lagos ports.
The event with the theme “Uniting with Youths Against Corruption, Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity” was held recently in Lagos in order to commemorate this year’s edition of International Anti-Corruption Day.
Speaking at this year’s edition of International Anti-corruption Day, the Secretary, of Anti-corruption Transparency Monitoring Unit, Mrs. Nkechi Emeruwa, emphasized the damaging impact of corruption on all sectors of the economy and urged Nigerians to actively join the fight against it.
“Corruption continues to be a serious threat to national development, and it is essential for all citizens to be part of this movement,” Emeruwa stated.
Mrs. Ifeoluwa Ayoola, a representative of the ICPC, also spoke at the event, highlighting the commission’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and the need for a collective effort to tackle corrupt practices in Nigeria.
The campaign’s focus this year, “Uniting Youth Against Corruption,” aims to empower young people as key drivers of change and integrity. As part of the day’s activities, an anti-corruption walk took place, with members of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Nigerian Police Force helping manage traffic along the busy access road to the port.
The joint initiative underscores the growing commitment of Nigeria’s institutions to promote transparency, particularly in the critical shipping and logistics sector. With strong participation from various agencies, the campaign aims to foster a corruption-free environment for future generations.
