Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has been named honorary president of the ECOWAS Network of Electoral Commissions (ECONEC) after steering the network in the last two years as president.
The network’s new president, Dr. Maria do Rosario Lopes Pereira, disclosed that the honorary recognition on the INEC boss was in recognition of his exemplary leadership and contribution to democracy and good governance in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) region.
“In accordance with provisions of the ECONEC Statute, the General Assembly adopted a unanimous resolution conferring the title of Honorary President of ECONEC on Prof. Mahmood Yakubu,” Dr. Pereira, who is also the Cape Verde electoral commission chairperson, told newsmen after her emergence.
