HURIWA urges truce between Amnesty, military over report

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called on the military to find a way of cultivating working partnerships and relationships with international groups in Nigeria, particularly the Amnesty International (AI).

It said there was no need for the Nigerian Army and AI to be living like cat and dog because, according to the rights group, “ AI is an international platform of activists and AI in Nigeria should not be seen as a foreign entity because there are a lot of Nigerians that are registered members of Amnesty International. So, the Nigerian military should find a way of carrying AI along.”

In a statement yesterday in Abuja by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA insisted that AI was not a group that would undermine the territorial or national security of any nation, adding that the misunderstanding between it and the military was not good.  It, therefore, urged for a truce.
