Gunmen abduct five oil workers in Rivers State

Unknown gunmen have abducted five oil workers in Akuku-Toru Council of Rivers State.

It was learnt that the victims were working within the OML-55 operational area of an indigenous oil company, Belemaoil Producing Limited (BPL), when the bandits struck and whisked them away.

It was learnt that the oil workers are personnel of Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL), a subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), and contractors of Belemaoil, BGP, a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).

Chairman of Kula Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, King Kroma Eleki, has blamed the kidnap on moves by a multinational oil company to collude with some persons in Kula to undermine the security of the area and forcefully resume oil operations in Kula territory.

According to him, the Kula Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers strongly condemns the act.

The monarch described the incident as inimical to the development of the area, stressing that it could cause social disorder.
