Group tasks governments on appointment of women in key sectors of economy

Partners West Africa, Nigeria (PWAN) has tasked government at all levels to ensure that women are appointed into key sectors of the economy.

As the inauguration of the Ninth National Assembly approaches, it also canvassed leadership positions for female legislators.

The group also expressed dissatisfaction with the relegation of women, particularly by the present administration, stressing that it has taken women several steps backwards in political and appointive positions.

Speaking yesterday at a forum to set an agenda for women participation in politics towards 2023, the group in collaboration with Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre, decried the continued reduction of women’s political space across the country.

Executive Director of PWAN, Kemi Okenyodo, said the forum was organised to ask all political office holders to include women in key positions in their cabinets, noting that time was ripe to demand for better representation of women in the country’s democratic space.

Meanwhile, the group has restated that it has responsibility of holding government and the private sector accountable and would embark on initiatives to enlighten and empower women.
