Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade has described man’s inhumanity to man as the cause of instability around the world.
A statement issued by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Ita, disclosed that the governor stated this while unveiling this year’s Carnival Calabar with the theme: Humanity.
He enjoined all Nigerians and all men to return to God and conscience, which he said were key to humanity and the African spirit of being one’s brother’s keeper.
Ayade took bandleaders of the carnival through a powerpoint presentation on the ills brought upon man by fellow men, saying a man has lost conscience and now given to deviant behaviours.
“Imagine the depth of animalism and how much man has travelled away from his conscience.”
Ayade urged bandleaders to go beyond the pleasures of the annual tourism fiesta to communicate the message through their music and that it was time to return to “the conscience that qualifies us as humans.”
