Global commitments to renewable energy exceed $11 trillion

Global divestments from fossil fuel to cleaner energy sources have assumed an upbeat dimension with pledges in that regard crossing the $11 trillion mark.

To celebrate the feat, the campaigners and sympathisers alike popularised the “$11T and Counting: New goals for a fossil-free world” report.

The document, which acknowledged a leap of $2 trillion in less than six months, was released yesterday ahead of the “Financing the Future” summit holding today and tomorrow in Cape Town, South Africa.

With over 300 delegates from 44 countries, including Nigeria in attendance, the conference is eyeing to raise advocates on every continent to accelerate the flow of capital out of the fossil fuel industry for a 100 per cent renewable energy future with a view to ensuring access to 850 million people globally.
