Gani Adams cautions against alleged N100b budget for MACBAN

The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Otunba Gani Adams, has cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari against the reported N100 billion allocation to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) for alleged security purposes.

He warned that such financial mobilisation would further encourage other pressure groups across the federation to overheat the polity through divisive activities in anticipation for gratification from the Federal Government.

In a statement, Adams suggested that such funds should be channelled to other pressing needs, as this would forestall any crisis that may trigger off in other zones, particularly the Niger Delta region.

According to him, “the Federal Government should realise the fact that the spate of insecurity in the country is currently at an alarming rate and it is not limited to the North. There is no point treating one section with kid gloves to the detriment of other areas. There is need for serious caution.”

The Aare noted that while the government was proposing such huge funds for the cattle breeders’ group, “there are series of attacks ongoing in Akokoland, Ondo State, which happens to be my hometown. Kidnapping and other criminal activities are on the increase.

“Several other parts of the southern and Middle Belt regions are facing terrible security satiations. The proposed N100 billion for me is very much higher than the total budget package for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC) for three years. The move could trigger avoidable crisis across all the zones in the country.”
