A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has alleged that Fulani herdsmen have killed no fewer than 3,400 persons in the country between January and August this year.
Consequently, he cautioned Christians and all Nigerians to heed former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s advice seriously over his claim of plans to Islamise and Fulanise Nigeria.
Fani-Kayode also warned Minister-designate, Sheikh Ibrahim Pantami to stop making comments capable of causing religious disharmony, saying it will be a disgrace to appoint such a character as a minister.
He stated this yesterday as a keynote speaker at a programme organised by the Fellowship of Christian Churches in Nigeria (FCCN) with the theme: Good Governance in Nigeria Today: The Crucial Role of the Church, at the Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT) in Jos, Plateau State.
“Obasanjo is very careful about what he says, especially when it has to do with religious and ethnic divides. So, when he talked about Islamisation and Fulanisation, he knows what he was saying.
“He also talked about Nigeria going the way of Rwanda. I advise Christians and Nigerians to take his warning seriously,” he said.
He charged the Church to rise up to its responsibility by speaking against evil in the land, adding: “As Christians, we are the salt of the earth. Our role is absolutely crucial, especially Christians in the North who are faced with several persecutions for over 50 years.”
Fani-Kayode also pointed out that of the 17 heads of security agencies in Nigeria, including the Police, Army, Air Force, Navy, State Security Service (SSS) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), only the Chief of Naval Staff is a Christian, while others are Muslims.
“The Christian community has been the target in this country and as such Christians must rise up and stand against evil. They must come together as one, care for one another and ensure that they are not marginalised and tormented. We must speak truth to power and stand up as one for the weak,” he added.
