The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has appealed to freight forwarders to resolve their grievances with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) through dialogue, rather than industrial action. The appeal came after freight forwarders picketed MSC’s offices, protesting a recent increase in shipping line tariffs. Despite the NSC’s attempt to engage the protesters, they refused to dialogue, insisting that the increased charges be reversed immediately.

The NSC’s Executive Secretary/CEO, Dr. Akutah Pius, emphasized that dialogue is the most effective and modern dispute resolution mechanism, warning that prolonged industrial disputes could disrupt port operations and harm the economy. He condemned the unprofessional conduct of some freight forwarders, particularly blocking regulators from accessing MSC premises.

The NSC has reiterated its commitment to mediating between shipping companies and freight forwarders to ensure fair practices and stability in the maritime sector
