The Ini Ememobong Foundation has commissioned health team to fumigate major markets and abattoirs in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The markets to be covered in the first batch of intervention are the Akpan Andem and Itam Markets, as well as the Central Abattoir Livestock Market at Itam.
Chairman of the Foundation, Ulap Bassey Essang, briefed the market operators so as to allay the fears of market users on the proposed fumigation before commencement, saying this was the moment that fumigation effort became imperative to check the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ekong Sampson has donated food items and boreholes worth over N5 million to Mkpat Enin Council Area of the state.
He described the effort as Kinship-Communal-Water approach to stem the tide of the pandemic in the area.
The three refurbished boreholes are located at Ikot Akpabong, Ikot Eka Ide Minya, Nyadiong and a new one at Ikot Akpa Ekop.
