The Federal Government has received test kits and preventive materials for Coronavirus donated by a Chinese billionaire, Jack Ma, who promised to assist the 54 African countries with preventive materials to contain the spread of the disease in Africa.
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Abdullahi Mashi, who received the items on behalf of the Federal Government urged corporate organisations and individuals to support government in combating the scourge.
Mashi disclosed that over 100 face masks and 20,000 test kits, among other items, were sent to the country.
Also speaking, Director, Port Health Services, Dr. Morenike Oko, commended Jack Ma for the gesture, adding that the items would go a long way in preventing the spread of the disease in the country.
The followed airlifting of medical materials by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday, from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos to the Nnmadi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja in fulfillment of NAF’s role of providing Military Aid to Civil Authority (MACA).
Mashi thanked the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, for the timely deployment of aircraft to airlift the items to Abuja.
He also expressed appreciation to NAF officers and men, who participated in the airlift mission for their professional conduct, adding that the items would go a long way in supporting government’s efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
Responding, NAF leadership expressed its readiness to provide support within its statutory responsibility of assisting civil authority as the country continues to battle COVID-19.
