The National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-agitators (NCNDE-A) yesterday enjoined President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint a substantive Coordinator for the presidential amnesty programme.
Its Spokesman, Jator Abido stressed that the new coordinator must be appointed from within the Amnesty Programme office or the Niger Delta region irrespective of his ethnic and religious leanings.
Berating the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno over the decision to constitute an interim committee for the programme, the group demanded massive training of ex-militants and youths devoid of nepotism and racketeering by officials of the agency.
The group, in colaboration of the Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC) said, “Except for other reason from the presidency, we need only men and women from the Niger Delta region be the beneficiaries of the programme as against the current practice where relatives and female friends of officials of the programme from other regions benefit to the detriment of those for who the agency was created.
We urge the President to urgently come to our aid and advert resumption of hostilities in the region, irrespective of the negative consequences on the nation’s economy, but with the facts, the global community has been informed that Monguno was on the verge of setting the country on fire.
“To this end, we expect President Buhari to act fast and stop the shenanigans of the NSA and his office notorious for its reputational injuries from plundering our national resources.”
He continued, “Rather than surrender us to the mercies of Monguno, we demand that the President disband that bunch assembled by his NSA and constitute a new committee to include leaders, ex-militants and human development experts from the region in new Committee under the administration of the present Head of Administration of the programme to open a new vista of genuine development of ex-militants and persons from the region.
“If the activities of the agency must be probed, Monguno should also be probed because the office is under his purview and we are very much aware that he is neck-deep in the massive corruption that has kept the agency in permanent reverse gear.”
