ERA tasks Federal Government on renewable energy sources

The Environmental Rights Action (ERA) has urged the Federal Government to discard oil and gas dependence for renewable energy sources as a sustainable solution to Nigeria’s power supply challenge.

Its executive director, Dr. Godwin Uyi Ojo, noted that government had spent trillions of naira in the last two decade to improve electricity supply to no avail.

He contended that the alleged weak energy infrastructure, in the midst of rising electricity demand which had resulted in the collapse of the national grid for days in recent times, needed to be tackled differently and progressively.

He spoke at the weekend during a teacher’s training session on renewable energy in Warri, Delta State.

Ojo sought teacher-student engagement as a way to address the energy transition in the country.
