Enterpreneur to train 30 youths on glass recycling in Lagos

Mr. Hammed Rauf, Chief Executive Director, Hamruf Global Limited, says he plans to train 30 youths in Lagos for free on glass recycling.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the six-week training on waste to wealth, Rauf said that his area of specialisation was actually aluminum construction.

He, however, added that after graduation, getting an aluminum contract was challenging because many people were already in the field.

He said that was what made him venture into glass recycling, and his first experience making an award plaque was quite difficult.

He said that his client, Bola Oyebade of the Maryland Rotary Club, motivated and encouraged him not to give up on glass recycling and that he could do better, having achieved the feat he did in his first attempt.

Rauf said the motivation gave him courage not to give up on glass recycling, noting that he also did not give up on aluminum construction.

He said that he discovered that people who were into glass recycling usually left because they were neither encouraged nor motivated.

He announced that the glass recycling training would run for six weeks, with the closing ceremony at the American Corner in Ikeja.

He said that this set of trainees would be the first to be trained on coloured glass recycling.

Speaking, Mrs. Seyi Oladimeji, President, Rotary Club of Mushin Golden D9110, said the club tried to encourage young people, especially to learn skills.

Oladimeji urged the trainees to utilise the training judiciously and contribute their quota to society.

Also, Mr. Hassan-Taiwo Amobi, Chief Executive Officer, TFA Recycling Limited, said that before you become an entrepreneur, you must have a lot of ideas that would grow your business into a big one.

He said that packaging and presentation of ideas were also necessary for an entrepreneur, and this was the best time to invest in glass recycling because the industry was still growing in Nigeria.

He said that glass recycling was an ‘oil gold’ all over the world and that it was important for young people to learn how to create jobs for themselves and others.

Also speaking at the event, Ms. Kaosar-Omotayo Muhammad, YALI outgoing Assistant Programmes Manager, said that even if the training was free, the knowledge was not free.

Muhammad said that if you are trained, you too could train someone and make money from it.

She appealed to the participants to be serious about the training and use it judiciously for themselves and their family members.
