Youths in Akwa Ibom State have been implored to embrace agriculture for food sufficiency amid an imminent global economic meltdown occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Marketing and Brand Management, Ime Uwah, made the call at the March edition of the Akwa Ibom Youths prayer meeting in Uyo.
He submitted that all economic indices point to an “impending economic recession if no miracle happens soonest.”
Uwah however advocated an intensive agro-revolution by the youths to ensure availability of food regardless of global economic difficulties.
The SSA commended his principal for creating an enabling environment for farmers in the state to thrive, urging Akwa Ibom people to take advantage of the various farmer-friendly initiatives to better their lot while ensuring food sufficiency in the state.
The event had in attendance the representative of the governor and Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Akan Okon; SSA on Youth Matters, Aniefiok Iwaudofia; SA on Entertainment, David Sergeant; SA on Student Matters, Akwaowo Clifford; youth leaders, clerics and a cross section of youths from the state’s three senatorial districts.
