Ekiti governor seeks support for military to tackle insecurity, wants drones to check crimes in state

Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has solicited more support for the Nigerian Army to enable it effectively tackle the nation’s myriad of security challenges.

He commended the efforts of the military in the ongoing anti-insurgency war in the North East.

Fayemi gave the commendation while receiving the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Maj.-Gen. Anthony Bamidele Omozeje, and other officers who were on tour of military formations and units under the division to assess the welfare of troops.

Represented by his deputy, Bisi Egbeyemi, the governor said his government would continue to give the needed support to boost the morale of soldiers in the state.

Fayemi, who asked the military in the state to prioritise the safety of lives and property of Ekiti people, urged the Federal Government to give drones to men of the armed forces serving in the state to enable them fish out miscreants.

He promised that his administration would complement the Federal Government in making the military comfortable in the discharge of its responsibilities.

He said: “We appreciate your efforts and we know what you are doing in the country as a whole. This is not an easy time for soldiers in the country. We are all humans, we know what you are going through, and we really appreciate.”

In his remarks, the GOC, who delivered the goodwill message of the Chief of the Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, pledged that the military would work together with the Ekiti government to ensure safety of lives and property.

The army chief sought the continued support for the force in creating an environment devoid of fear, threat or danger to the people.
