The Scout Association of Nigeria recently celebrated the five years existence of the Egbe-idimu Scout Local Association which was officially inaugurated in October 26th 2013 at Muslim Junior College, Egbe-Idimu under the District Commissioner Pioneer DC, Scouter Oyedeji Oyekunle Joshua.
The inauguration ceremony which was conducted with a weekend camp under the Divisioner Commissioner, Scouter M.O. Raji was graced by the representatives of the State Scout Commissioner, Chief Tawose Jonathan with his SHQ Commissioners.
The annual event which was well attended had the past LA members and Executives under the then President Mrs. Florence Ogahili and its vibrant Chairman Alh. Isa Bawa. Also in attendance were Engr. BOA Oyetayo, National HQ Commissioner (Air Scout) representing Chief Commissioner TSAN and Lagos state scout commissioner Adeleye funsho A. ADC Venture Igando, Secretary Alimosho Division, Mohammed B. Abubakar, former District Troop Leader.
Also in attendance were Scouter Sulaimon Ajetumobi, District Commissioner Egbe-Idimu, Scouter Oluwaseun J. Omodamon, Asst. District Commissioner (Rovers), Patriot Olaifa G.B. Oluwaseun Asst. Divisional Commissioner Alimosho Division and Mrs. Eshigbue Doris, Matron and Proprietress Vikkyfield School among other dignitaries that graced the epoch-making occasion.
Within its period of existence, the local Association we were told, has successfully trained boys and girls in Tenderfoot Course (with 40 participants), Patrol Leader Course (46 participants), Second Class Course (43 members) and First Class Course (10 members). The Local Association conducts District Camps every October of the year. The first District Camp was held in Ton-Tray Private School Idowu-Egba, Isheri-Olofin, Igando Road in October 2014 with a total number of 25 participants. The Boys Scout and Girls in the District have taken part in division, State and National programmes i.e. Alimosho Camporee, 100 years Scouting Celebration at the State and Divisional Levels, Division First Class Course, Inter-District Competitions, Lagos State Train Adventure to Osun-Oshogbo, Lagos State Inter-District Competition, Lagos State Venture Camporee, Lagos State Commissioners Camp, 2nd Eko Camp, State Camporee, Lagos State Club Scout Seminars, Lagos State Air Scout Seminars, Lagos State Youth Camporee, Oyo State Youth Camporee, Lagos, amongst others.
Thanking all the participants in this years event, the District Commissioner wishes to appeal that the LA Executives and members will like to have Egbe-Idimu Scout Office as Secretariat while imploring all elected Excos to contribute to their growth.
The Divisional Police Officer of Police Lagos State, Idimu Police Station CSP Lewi Suleman was happy seeing the Scouts singing gave him hope and joy because of their diverse social and religious background, he also said that in each and every area in school there are Scouts for somebody like him who joined Scout as a youth and was recruited from the Primary School, advised that Nigerians should imbibe the discipline which Scouts have and exhibit to better the society we live in. According to him, Scouts can help out in so many ways as stop-gap measures to the security of the nation.
