ECOWAS leaders hold virtual summit on coronavirus

The Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government is today holding an Extraordinary Session through videoconference.

The ECOWAS Commission, through its Communications Department, yesterday said the leaders would discuss the “Situation and Impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic in the ECOWAS Region.”

The meeting comes days after an Extraordinary Summit of the ministers of finance and governors of central banks of the area.

To combat the disease, ECOWAS made funds available in addition to the assistance from international partners for the procurement of medical supplies and other essential items.

In a statement, the sub-regional body identified with member-states in their quest to check the spread of the deadly ailment.
