EAD successfully carried out in nine councils of A’Ibom, says aide

Special Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel on Political and Legislative Affairs, Sunny Ibuot, has declared that the National Population Commission (NPC) has successfully carried out Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) in nine council areas of the state.

He disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Uyo, saying those already covered are, Oron, Onna, Nsit Ibom, Ibiono Ibom, Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim, Obot Akara, Mkpat Enin and Ikot Abasi council areas.

Speaking after supervising the exercise, he explained that the demarcation exercise was in its Phase Nine in Akwa Ibom and that the exercise was part of Federal Government’s measures to ensure accurate demographic data and a hitch-free National Population Census to be conducted soon.

“We monitor, supervise and ensure that Akwa Ibom people fully participate in the EAD exercise that is conducted by the National Population Commission (NPC) so as to take full advantage of it. The exercise is through in nine local government areas of the state. It is necessary to monitor the exercise to ensure that the work is properly done in the field,” he said.

Ibuot commended Governor Emmanuel for providing the necessary logistics support and assistance for the smooth conduct of the exercise and expressed satisfaction over the level of compliance during the exercise.

He described EAD exercise as a foundation and vital component of a successful census exercise and sought compliance from the people of the state.

“I urge Akwa Ibom people to cooperate with officers of the NPC so that no area in their domain should be left without demarcation,” he added.

Speaking, visiting state Coordinator for the exercise, Iyawa Madagwa, expressed appreciation to the Akwa Ibom State Government for providing an enabling environment for a peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Earlier, the state Director of NPC, Mfon Umoden, expressed satisfaction over the level of compliance, stating that, the exercise, which was presently at Phase 9b in Mkpat Enin and Ikot Abasi council areas, would soon get to Phase 10.

Umoden described the EAD exercise as requisite for the conduct of a successful National Population Census and that the EAD was in preparation for the census, stressing, “It is the splitting of land mass into small units for counting during census.”
