The Divisional Police Officer Ilashe Division, SP Demian Okeke recently escaped death with the boat carrying him and his police team from Alakija to Ilashe collided with an on-coming boat. The boat was submerged and sunk into the river bed but they were however lucky as rescue came civilians at the jetty with another boat.
Unfortunately, Supol Yusuf Emmanuel, an Inspector of Police with the Pilot of the boat were injured badly in the process and were admitted immediately in a nearby hospital in Alakija for treatment and later transferred to Navy Hospital Alakija the following day.
In a chat with the New Experience Newspaper, Okeke said that at about 5.00hrs, one ALiyu Akinola, Male of Ilashe Sea Beach Mine, came to the station and reported that at about 4.00hrs, himself and his mother, Alhaja Ramota Akinola 50 yrs, were in their house at Ilashe sea Beach when two armed men wearing masks armed with a shot gun and machete broke into the house and shot his mother, while he escaped. The police, he said went there immediately, visited the victim and rushed her to Isolo General Hospital where she was confirmed dead and the corpse deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Thanking God for sparing his life. Okeke said.This is the first time am experiencing a boat mishap in my entire life. I have been hearing it but I have not before now experienced it. It was on our way back from the General Hospital when the incident happened at Alakija. Surprisingly, our daily routine in Ilashe most times is by boat due to the environment most of the villages are surrounded by water, the communities around here are Islands he explained.
Confirming the incident, the DSP Bala Elkana said he was contacted immediately the incident happened.
According to him, suspects have been arrested and charged to court for further investigation.
