The Federal Government has taken a significant step towards revolutionizing the maritime sector with the launch of the Maritime Labour E-Platform, a digital solution designed to enhance governance, transparency, and efficiency in maritime labour administration.

At the 2025 Day of the Seafarer celebration in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, unveiled the platform, describing it as a transformative tool for labour administration. “This e-platform is a bold step towards digital governance, improved service delivery, and industry-wide innovation,” he said.

The Minister commended NIMASA for the initiative, aligning with the Ministry’s vision of ease of doing business, global competitiveness, and human capital development in the blue economy. He emphasized the government’s commitment to seafarers’ rights and safety, particularly in addressing harassment and bullying onboard.

“The theme ‘My Harassment-Free Ship’ is a call to action,” Oyetola said. “We prioritize quality training, capacity-building programmes, and aligning seafarer education with international standards.”

NIMASA Director General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, reaffirmed the Agency’s support for Nigerian seafarers, emphasizing zero tolerance for harassment and abuse. He highlighted initiatives like the Nigerian Seafarers Development Programme (NSDP) and pledged to develop policies to prevent and address harassment onboard.

The event featured goodwill messages, an award ceremony recognizing outstanding Nigerian seafarers, and a visit to seafarers onboard ships.
