The Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers has urged Nigerians to be more vigilance in the face of the pervasive insecurity in the country. It also implored security agencies to be proactive in protecting the lives and property of citizens.
Rising from their first quarterly meeting for the year in Asaba, the monarchs, in a five-point communiqué, described the prevailing security challenges in the land as worrisome.
Chairman of the body and the Obi of Owa, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, challenged the security agencies to introduce new and aggressive crime-preventive and detective strategy at containing the activities of criminal elements in the state and the nation at large.
Stressing that information and intelligence gathering were key to checking criminality, the royal fathers appealed to Nigerians to always volunteer useful and timely information to security organisations for prompt action.
They commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his assistance to law-enforcement forces in the state, especially the recent donation of 35 operational vehicles to the police and other security agencies to enhance peace and security.
The traditional monarchs appreciated the governor’s performance and passed a vote of confidence on him and his deputy in the areas of peacebuilding, democracy dividends and overall development of the state.
The council also hailed the recent inauguration of the 63 Brigade headquarters of the Nigerian Army by the governor in the company of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, in the state capital
On the Lassa fever and Coronavirus outbreaks, the monarchs implored the people to adhere to health tips, hygiene and proactive measures prescribed by professionals.
Prominent traditional rulers from across the three senatorial districts, including the Dein of Agbor, Keagborekuzi I; Obi of Abavo, Uche Irenuma II; and the Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, Ukori I, graced the gathering.
