Delay in completion of Lagos-Ibadan rail project causing hiccups

Indications have emerged that the Federal Government may be experiencing some hiccups in the build-up to the December deadline for the completion of the Lagos-Ibadan railway project.

In as much the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) has completed laying the standard gauge rail tracks from Iju-Ishaga axis of Lagos state to Moniya area in Ibadan, construction of tracks to link the Apapa ports still remains a mirage.

This owing to obstructions of oil pipelines but the worst is the flour mill factories along the rail track, which stakeholders have said would cost the Federal Government huge sums for payment of compensations to relocate the factories.

An official of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) lamented the paltry sum allocated for the project, saying it was responsible for the delay in delivering the project.
