Customs Service Cracks Down on Unethical Behavior, Introduces New Threshold

By Our Correspondent

The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) has approved a De Minimis Threshold Value of $300 for low-value imports, effective September 8, 2025. This move aims to simplify clearance processes, enhance trade facilitation, and provide clarity for e-commerce stakeholders and travelers. The threshold applies to four importations per annum and aligns with international best practices and relevant laws. Goods valued at $300 or less will be exempt from import duties and taxes, provided they are not prohibited or restricted items. The NCS will establish helpdesk platforms to support smooth implementation and ensure compliance. In a separate development, the Board has taken disciplinary action against officers involved in misconduct, including demotion and reinstatement, and issued a stern warning against unethical behaviour.
