Cleric urges Sanwo-Olu to be passionate leader, remember less privileged

Diocesan Bishop of Lagos, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Reverend Humphrey Olumakaiye, has advised Lagos State governor-elect, Babatunde Sanwo-Olu, to be a passionate leader and remember the downtrodden in society.

He said the incoming governor should, as a matter of priority, address the unfavourable economic conditions impacting heavily on the less privileged and the downtrodden in the state and alleviate their sufferings.

The cleric also advised the governor-elect to tackle the traffic situation in the state, which he described as annoying and disturbing with its negative impact on the economy.

He said this yesterday during a thanksgiving service for Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Ibijoke, attended by deputy governor-elect, Obafemi Hamzat and his wife, Oluremi at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Okepopo, Lagos.

Olumakaiye also admonished Sanwo-Olu to serve the people of Lagos State diligently, selflessly and with total dedication, which would make the people follow him and honour him.

“During his campaign, he came for prayers and today, he has come to give thanks to God that saw him through the elections and my counsel to him is that he should not forget the good Lord who made it possible.

“I have known him to be a committed child of God in God’s vineyard, and this virtue must have led to his being given this opportunity by God to lead his people in the state and my counsel is that he should serve the people with integrity of heart.

“He should also carry party members along in all his programmes, as a tree cannot make a forest and to know that good leadership commands absolute followership,” he said.

Responding, Sanwo-Olu asked for the prayers of Lagos peoples for the success of the incoming administration, saying that he knows that to whom much is given, much should also be expected.
