Cleric tasks Plateau Governor Lalong on peace, unity, others

Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos and Coadjutor of Abuja Archdiocese, Reverend Ignatius Kaigama, has urged Plateau State Governo, Simon Lalong, to use his second term in office to promote lasting peace and unity in the region.

In his congratulatory message to Lalong yesterday, he urged other candidates to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and collaborate with the governor for the common good of Plateau people.

A statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mark Longyen, quoted the cleric as also urging the governor to be magnanimous in victory and extend his hand of fellowship to his opponents to better develop the state.

“I write on behalf of myself, the clergy, and the religious and entire laity of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos, to congratulate you on this feat and to rejoice with you on this act of confidence Plateau people have reposed on you.

“We wish you every success as you are set to begin your second tenure as governor,” Kaigama said in his message.

“We are confident that the trust placed in you by the Plateau people will inspire you to continue in your efforts of promoting the Unity of the state, leading it to prosperity, wellbeing and security for the people.

“I know that you will be magnanimous in victory to start binding the wounds and bitterness occasioned by the campaigns, leave your doors open to contributions of those political affiliations may be different from yours,” he added.

Kaigama also urged Lalong to continue to work in accordance with his administration’s people-oriented programmes, especially at the grassroots level, stressing that it would boost the state’s socio-economic development.

He also assured the governor of the Catholic family’s support to engender peace, as well as democratic, political and economic reforms in the state.
