President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Justice M.B. Dongban Mensem as acting president of the Court of Appeal for an initial period of three months.
A statement in Abuja by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, said the appointment takes effect today when her predecessor, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, formally retires from service.
The most senior judge of the appellate court would act in that capacity pending a substantive appointment by the president subject to the confirmation of the Senate.
Menem’s elevation followed the recommendation of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, in line with the provisions of Section 238(4) and (5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
