MEMBERS of the Biafra Zionists Federation (BZF), yesterday, announced that they would hold a Biafra Day rally on Sunday, May 30, 2021.
The group said its members would parade the streets of South-East cities and towns to celebrate Biafra’s anniversary, stressing that there was no directive banning peaceful procession.
Leader of BZF, Mazi Benjamin Onwuka, disclosed this in a statement issued in Enugu, saying sit-at-home orders earlier adopted by groups had not helped the Biafran struggle and that that the people should rather hold a Biafra rally on May 30.
“We cannot be sitting at home since 2013 without results. Sitting at home will not deliver Biafra’s independence. India invented the sit-at-home approach. This is not India and so that approach won’t work here.
“On May 30, Biafrans will not sit at home, they will hold a parade at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, where I will take the salute. It will be a unique event,” he said.
Disclosing that he has backed the United States of America (U.S.A.), Onwuka said: “At the moment, Nigeria is no longer with the world powers. They have abandoned Nigeria and that is why Biafra is no longer isolated internationally.
We are grateful to the U.S. for its support. I have always said that what Biafra needs is international recognition. We lost the war weapons, and I don’t mean physical weapons, but international diplomacy and support, which are the greatest weapons.
“The five permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council were not with us. We won’t make such a mistake again. Presently, we have been able to engage President Joe Biden’s administration and we are happy with the outcome,” he stated.
He said the South East had suffered injustice and deprivations from the Nigerian government, stressing that these gave rise to everything happening in the country now, including the menace of unknown gunmen.
“They militarised the South East all these years with security operatives, even Customs officers chase people to our villages, searching booths of vehicles for rice. Where else do such things happen except in Southern Nigeria?
“Extortion and oppression of the police are also very high in our region, so these gave birth to unknown gunmen. In all of these, Zionists urge our people not to be cowed, because Biafrans will be liberated,” he added.
