Bashir Tofa deplores pervasive poverty, illiteracy in Kano

The candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) in the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election, Alhaji Usman Bashir Tofa, at the weekend decried the pervasive poverty and illiteracy in Kano, stating that the development was adversely affecting the growth of the state.

Besides, he held the twin challenge was fuelling the Almajiri crisis in northern Nigeria.

Tofa, who is also chairman of Kano Concern Citizen Initiative (KCCI), blamed the prevailing insecurity in the region on what he considered “political indirection” of the ruling class.

Speaking at a security summit organised by KCCI in Kano, he canvassed an immediate reorientation to save the zone.
