Appeal court adjourns senators Ekwunife, Ubah’s petitions to May 29, 31

The Appeal court sitting in Awka, Anambra State has adjourned the suits filed by senators Chris Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Victor Umeh of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) against the declaration of senators-elect, Uche Ekwunife of PDP and Ifeanyi Ubah of Young Progressives Party (YPP) to May 29 and May 31.

Ekwunife and Ubah had won the Anambra South and Anambra Central Senatorial districts in the February 23, 2019 general elections.

When the petition marked EPT/AN/SEN/11/2019 filed by Chris Uba and PDP against Ifeanyi Ubah and 11 others came up for hearing, the presiding judge ruled that the application for dismissal of the suit should wait as there were pending cases awaiting determination.

In adjourning the case, the court hearing the Uba’s petition rescheduled the new adjourned date from May 30 to May 31 when the petitioner’s counsel, G.C. Igbokwe, cited insecurity as reason and reminded the tribunal of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) sit-at-home order on May 30.
