The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service recorded the sum of the N52.37b through export trade between January to June 2020.
This was disclosed on Thursday by the Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Mohammed Abba-Kura during his half-year briefing with newsmen in his command.
According to him, the items exported through the command were agricultural products, mineral resources, steel bars, among others having a total tonnage of 1.642 million Metric tons with a free on board (FOB) value of $171,142,178.99 million.
On revenue generation through import, Abba-Kura disclosed that a total of N227.35 billion was realised from customs duty and other charges, seven per cent surcharge, value added tax (VAT) one per cent Comprehensive Import Supervision Scheme (CISS), among others within the period under review; which showed an increase of 10.59 percent or N24.1 billion from the figures of the corresponding period of 2019 when the command recorded N,203.3 billion.
In the area of anti-smuggling and enforcement operations, The command boss stated that the command seized a total of 142 containers of various goods which contravened Section 46 48 of CEMA (Customs & Excise Management Act) “Pursuant to Section 46 48 of CEMA (Customs & Excise Management Act) that deals with offences in relation to import and export, in order words Forfeiture of Goods Improperly Imported, the command has seized a total of 142 containers of various items.
” The breakdown of the seized items include two assorted vehicles – one Rolls Royce 2018 and one Lamborghini Hurricane Sport Car 2019 models with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N324.530 million”.
Other items seized by the command includes 64 containers of pharmaceuticals; 32 containers of rice; 7 containers of used clothing; and many others in several boxes all with a Duty Paid Value of over N15.9 billion.
