By prince Benson Davies

The Comptroller of Customs, Apapa Port Command, Bo Olomu, has disclosed that the command achieved a total revenue collection of N1,378,059,019,245.20 in the first half of 2025. This represents a 35% increase above the N1,023,663,842,255.63 collected during the same period in 2024.

Speaking at a mid-year press conference, Olomu attributed the success to the command’s enhanced stakeholder engagement, deployment of ICT, port user compliance, and uncompromising disposition of officers and men. He also commended the support of sister government agencies, which has helped to boost revenue collection and combat smuggling.

*Trade Facilitation*

The command has made significant progress in trade facilitation, with the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu, going live in the Apapa Command. The system has enabled the issuance of Single Goods Declaration, marking a shift towards faster and more reliable cargo handling. The command is also working with the Nigerian Railway Corporation to develop a standard operating procedure for the movement of goods by rail from Apapa Port to other states.

*Anti-Smuggling Efforts*

The command has seized 27 containers with a duty-paid value of N9,267,443,966.00 between January and June 2025. The seized items include unregistered pharmaceuticals, used clothing, expired margarine, wild animals’ skin, and codeine syrup. The command has also sealed three bonded terminals for various infractions and charged one to court for prosecution.

*Inter-Agency Collaboration*

Olomu commended sister government agencies for their support and robust intelligence sharing, which has helped to combat smuggling and boost revenue collection. He assured that the command will continue to strengthen its bond with these agencies to achieve its objectives.
