AOCOED wants education varsity status, to honour Jakande

The Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Ijanikin, Lagos has advocated a university of education status for the institution.

It has also concluded plans to honour former Governor of Lagos State, Lateef Jakande, at its combined convocation ceremony scheduled for tomorrow, May 14, 2019, where no fewer than 5,674 students will be graduating.

Provost of the college, Dr. Omolola Ladele, said Jakande would be honoured for his role in the college, adding that he (Jakande) moved AOCOED to its present location.

Other prominent Nigerians who contributed to the development of education in the state, she said, would also be recognised.

She further disclosed that the 61-year institution had been ranked number one among colleges of education in Nigeria and 55th among the 233 tertiary institutions in the country with universities, polytechnics and colleges of education by Webometric’s ranking of world universities.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Council, Professor Tunde Samuel, who spoke at the convocation lecture with the theme: Teacher Education in a Knowledge Economy and Quest for University of Education Status for Colleges of Education in Nigeria, said the institution is qualified for a university due to investment in it and what it has achieved.
