Again, Jonathan meets Buhari in Aso Rock, receives NANS executive at Otuoke

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan again visited the Presidential Villa, Abuja where he met with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The former president was sighted when he was being ushered into the president’s office about 1.45pm.

It is unclear whether the meeting was at the behest of President Buhari, but Jonathan was again sighted being chauffeur-driven out of the Villa, as he departed the State House at 2:01pm after a meeting that lasted about 10 minutes.

The former President had on October 10, 2019 visited the Presidential villa, his first visit to Aso Rock in Buhari’s second term and like that visit, he declined to speak with newsmen, just as presidency also declined to explain the reason for the visit.

He had arrived at the State House around 2.58 pm and met the President behind closed doors at 3pm.

Besides, Jonathan has again, lamented the killing of a soldier in the December 24, 2019 attack by unknown gunmen on his country home in Otuoke, Bayelsa State.

He made the assertion in a statement from his office in Abuja when the executive of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) paid him a solidarity visit over the attack.

Addressing the students, Jonathan said, “I thank you for coming to sympathise with me and my family. The fact that a soldier died in the attack traumatises me. That young man wouldn’t have died the way he did, if he was not protecting me.

“Whenever talk about the attack, I feel worried about the general society. Whenever I consider that people could do that to a former President who has reasonable security guarding him, my mind reaches out to the rest of Nigerians who do not have that level of protection.

“I am worried that so many people are becoming victims of sporadic shootings, kidnappings and so on. I believe that the country will get over the kind of insecurity it currently faces.”

Jonathan also highlighted the importance of education and urged the students to be serious with their studies, adding that when people are educated, the country would be able to manage governance and development issues better.

Speaking, NANS President, Danielson Akpan said visited Jonathan to sympathise with him over the attack on his house and to thank him for his legacies in the education sector.

Akpan told the former President that many students who got admitted in the 12 new federal universities he established had graduated.
