Abuja workers shun protest as security agents lay siege to TCN’s office

Headquarters of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in Abuja came under heavy security of the Nigerian Police and Army, as workers boycotted planned picketing by the Trade Union Congress (TUC). The protest, which was to be led by President of TUC, Boboi Kaigama, resulted from differences between some members of SSAEAC.

The TCN branch insisted that National President of SSAEAC, Chris Okonkwo, sponsored the protest, having lost its support after discovering that he misappropriated N500m.

Okonkwo was also accused of misappropriating monthly subscriptions of members of the association, which the EFCC was investigating for which some TUC members demanded withdrawal of queries to SSAEAC members, withdrawal of circulars on labour matters and review of allowances, among others.

President of TCN Branch of the association, Abidemi Dairo, said the protest was against government’s current efforts to improve power supply in the country.
