MARITIME EXPERT DOLES OUT ECONOMIC RECOVERY PLAN, PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR LAGOS NUJ*

Dr Segun Musa, the Deputy National President, of Air Logistics, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), has tasked the Federal Government on the need to put Nigeria’s economy back on track by deploying strategic measures.

He made the remarks during a courtesy call by executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Council, led by the Chairman, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi on Wednesday in Lagos.

The one-time governorship candidate in Lagos State appealed to the government to tackle food insecurity and transportation challenges headlong.

According to him, our government must use money realized from petrol subsidies to reduce inflation on food and transportation prices.

He reaffirmed the need to tackle unemployment at the grassroots to make people earn a living if we must get it right as a nation and tackle crimes.

“Capacity building is key at the grassroot level. Government should train youths so that they can become skillful and independent” he said..

Musa also advised government agencies to study the Act and Laws guiding their establishments in order not to shoot beyond their jurisdiction and  responsibilities, as seen in some organisations.

While commending the Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr. Wale Adeniyi, the Maritime expert reaffirmed the need for the Nigeria Customs Service to engage critical stakeholders to chart a way forward if Nigeria must been seen as the business hub of Africa.

“Nigeria Customs Service should float a Data Bank as against the use of Internet to check values that is operational.

“There is also need to work on the clearance time to help increase investors’ confidence and boost trade facilitation” the
NAGAFF Deputy President said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Council congratulated Dr Musa on the recent conferment of the Patron of Nigerian Football Supporters Club on him.

In his words, “This achievement has added to your tall cap as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Widescope International Nigeria Limited and as a Former Chairman, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Murtala Muhammed Airport Chapter”

“We are here today to strengthen the relationship between Lagos NUJ and your person.

“I want to commend you for building a firm relationship not only with the maritime journalists but with the NUJ, the umbrella body of all journalists.

“My relationship with you  dates back to more than 15 years when I was the President of the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN).

“My first event as MARAN President on Dry Ports Seminar was held at Premier Hotel, Ibadan and you had to fly to Ibadan and back to Lagos same day and effectively participated” Ajayi explained.

The NUJ Chairman commended Dr. Musa
for being a strong advocate of transparent maritime policies.

” I salute your passion for socio-economic and political development of Nigeria.

“You will agree with me that our relationship should be more symbiotic” Ajayi said.

He tasked Dr. Musa to continue to play an advisory role to our political leaders towards achieving a better and improved living conditions for all Nigerians.

Other executive members of NUJ in attendance were, Mr. Tunde Olalere, Secretary NUJ Lagos Council; Mr. Olayide Awosanya, Assistant Secretary; and Mr. Innocent Anaba, Financial Secretary.
