Seme Customs sustains war on smuggling, arrests four suspects with 553 parcels of Indian Hemp

The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that in its anti-smuggling operations intercepts contraband narcotics worth over N10 million. The Command on Friday said it arrested two sister security agents and two civilians in connection with the seizure of seven large sacks containing 553 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, also known as Indian Hemp.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Command Abdullahi Hussaini Onawo, a Superintendent of Customs (SC) and made available to journalists showed that the seizure was made around 2:00p.m, during a routine patrol by command officers along the Abidjan-Lagos corridor.

“The contraband narcotics valued at about N10 million and the means of conveyance were taken to the station at Seme and detained pending further investigations. Also taken to the station are the four male suspects who have volunteered statements. However, the two members of one of the sister security agencies were handed over to their agency for further necessary action,” the statement reads.
The statement also disclosed that preliminary investigations have commenced following the questioning of the suspects that the Indian Hemp was being conveyed to Kaduna State.
Speaking on the seizure, Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, condemned the nefarious means of earning a living by some members of the society, who have no consideration for the damaging effects of hard drugs, which contribute to crime in the country.
He urged members of the society who traverse the Seme Corridor to take advantage of the trade facilitation effort of the Nigeria Customs Service and engage in legitimate businesses.
“Meanwhile, Nnadi, who doubles as Chairman of the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post, enjoined all officers and stakeholders to ensure that all facilities and critical government infrastructure are always protected,” the statement added.
