Bello-Koko Commends MWUN Over Salary Increase For NPA Workers
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has commended the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) for its support in ensuring that the salaries of NPA employees are increased.
Managing Director of NPA, Mr Mohammed Bello-Koko in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday, noted that the salary of workers had remained stagnated for about 15 years since 2008.
Bello-Koko stated this when he received a letter with reference number: MWUN/MD/NPA/RFC/23, dated March 6, 2023, and signed by the Secretary-General MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, in which the union expressed appreciation to the management of the authority for the increment in the salary of its members.
The NPA boss said that breaking the jinx of salary stagnation suffered for over a decade by the authority’s employees was made possible by the support of the MWUN, noting that the authority remained appreciative of the union’s support. “This critical support from MWUN has buoyed us to intensify our relentless drive toward continuous improvement in the welfare of our esteemed workers in ways not limited to only monthly salary. We are further delighted by the fact that Adeyanju is now a national Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). “This gives us the necessary solidarity and backing to push for more benefits for our highly valued human resources,” he said.
It would be recalled that Bello-Koko accompanied Adeyanju on an advocacy visit to the headquarters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in November 2022 to solicit the union’s solidarity toward an increase in the salaries of NPA workers.
