Why We’re Committed To Delivering Road Projects In Bayelsa, By Governor Diri

BAYELSA State Governor, Douye Diri, has restated his administration’s commitment to construct and complete the Central, East and West senatorial roads in the state despite the fact that they are federal projects.

Speaking in Ekeremor shortly after inspecting the progress of work on the Bayelsa West senatorial road from Sagbama to Ekeremor, Diri said the determination to construct the three senatorial roads was premised on their importance in opening up the state and stimulating socio-economic activities.

A statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Daniel Alabrah, revealed that regardless of the economic decline and the fact that the roads were federal projects, his government would not be discouraged, but will ensure that they were built for the benefit of the people.

Diri, who expressed satisfaction at the level of work on the West senatorial road and hoped that it would be delivered on schedule, commended the contractor, for completing five bridges between Toru-Orua and Isampou communities and for the ongoing work on the sixth bridge at the entrance into Ekeremor main town.

He said the state was getting value for money so far spent and gave approval for the construction of another bridge at Ekeremor, adding that he was hopeful that on the second anniversary of his administration on February 14, people would drive to Ekeremor main town.

On the Bayelsa East road, Diri said efforts were still on to get the Federal Government to be involved in its construction and assured that regardless of the response from the federal government, his administration would commence the project.

Speaking, representative of Sagbama-Ekeremor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr. Fred Agbedi, commended Diri for his commitment to building roads in the state in spite of the fact they were federal projects.

He assured that at the appropriate time, members of the National Assembly from the state would initiate moves to ensure that the state government gets a refund for the construction of the roads.

Also, in his remarks, member representative of Ekeremor Constituency 1 in the House of Assembly, Tare Porri, applauded Diri’s Prosperity Administration on the construction of the Bayelsa West road, stressing that people of the constituency and the entire state were proud of him.

Porri assured the governor of the support of the people of his constituency to enable him to succeed.

The governor was accompanied on the tour by Speaker of the House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Moses Teibowei, other members of the state executive and some top government officials.
