ISTDAL Sues For Peace In Imo State By Anne Ejuka

The Imo State Towns Development Association (ISTDAL) in Lagos, has sued for the immediate restoration of peace in Imo state.

The President of the association, Chief Chris Ekeocha made this call in a press release made available to newsmen at the association’s secretariat in Lagos.

He described the current security situation in Imo state as worrisome, Chief Ekeocha called on every stakeholder in the state to give room for peace and avoid unnecessary destruction of life and property currently being witnessed in most parts of the state. “We are not happy that Imo has been turned into what could pass as a theatre of war”. He stated.

While urging both the state government and federal government to quickly bring the situation under control, he called on the security agents to put a stop to the undue harassment of innocent citizens and not to engage in extrajudicial killings “The security agencies should however not engage in extrajudicial killings and respect the human rights of Imo people; “The security agencies should go after the hoodlums and unknown gunmen involved in crime and criminality and not subject innocent citizens to undue hardship and harassment

The president warned that “ISTDAL as a body would not support any group that engages in wanton destruction of public property, just as we also would want the right of our people to be respected; “We appeal to the government to do the right thing and if possible convene a meeting of stakeholders on how to resolve the security crisis” Ekeocha stated.

ISTDAL is a socio-political, economic, cultural and nonpartisan association housing all Imo state registered town unions in Lagos.
