Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP), Hakeem O. Odumosu, has disclosed that the command recorded several successes in the last one month, saying that with government’s partial easing of the lockdown last month, the usual hustle and bustle associated with the nation’s commercial hub was fast returning.
Speaking at a media briefing at the Command’s Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos, he said the command therefore, redoubled its efforts in protecting the lives and property of Lagos residents and at the same time enforcing the laws to curtail the spread of COVID-19 and other criminal activities.
He explained that within the last one month, the Command arrested 41 armed robbery suspects and successfully foiled 28 armed robbery attempts, adding that one armed robbery suspect died during exchange of fire with the policemen, just as 195 suspects were arrested for cultism.
“Suspects were arrested for kidnapping and 52 suspects were arrested for murder. The state recorded six cases of suicide and prevented four suicide attempts. Also, 19 assorted firearms with lots of ammunition of different calibre, along with cutlasses, axes, other dangerous weapons and criminal charms were recovered.
“The Command also recovered six stolen vehicles. In our quest to rid the State off illicit drugs, our surveillance teams intercepted 328 bags of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (cannabis sativa) and other illicit drugs, while nine suspected fraudsters that specialise in duping people with fake U.S. dollar currencies were arrested with their black boxes and operational vehicles,” he said.
Odumosu added that in sustaining the war against rapists, the Command has in the last one month arrested 30 suspects for rape and defilement, 23 suspects were arrested for domestic violence and two suspects for child abuse.
On COVID-19 enforcement, the command arrested 3,375 violators of which 2,600 were arrested for violating curfew, 208 for failure to wear face mask, 90 for flouting social distance directive and 477 for interstates travel.
He also pointed out that 1,506 vehicles were impounded, including 210 vehicles for interstates travel, 1,858 motorcycles and 156 tricycles were also impounded.
