Herdsmen kill, behead two hunters in Edo community

Residents of Odighi Community in Ovia North East Council Area of Edo State have lamented that their community is under siege as herdsmen killed and beheaded two hunters on their farms.

The residents, who are mostly farmers, have expressed sadness over the incessant attacks on members of the community in their farms.
The victims were identified as Ben Itodere, 62, an Urhobo indigene in Delta State and one Nasiru, 45 who hailed from Ebira, Kogi State.
A distraught member of the community said the herdsmen killed and beheaded the two hunters on their farms and covered their bodies with leaves.
The incident triggered protest by youths in the community who took over the Benin-Akure highway to register their displeasure over herdsmen’s incessant killings in the community.
Odighi Community had been under attack by herdsmen as a Palm wine tapper and farmer had been killed in the agragarian community recently sparking series of protest calling on Edo state government to intervene and come to their rescue.
When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Lawal Jimeta, said the command was yet to be briefed as he was at a security meeting at the time of filing this report.
