Customs seizes N3.9m petrol in Adamawa, Taraba

The Adamawa/Taraba command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized 31,125 litres of petrol in two weeks.

The 1,245.25kg gallons, valued at N3.9 million, were confiscated along the Nigeria-Cameroun border.

The smugglers often ferry product through Mubi and Mahia local councils of both states.

Parading the goods in Yola, the command’s spokesman, Mu’Awuya Ahmad, said no arrest was made “because the smugglers, on sighting our men, always take to their heels.”

He regretted the numerous unpatriotic acts amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The command vowed: “We will not relent in our efforts to beat smugglers to their antics.

“We are going to make their usual business unattractive. We shall match them action for action.”

The comptroller, Kamaldeen Olumoh, had earlier said the contrabands would be auctioned with the proceeds remitted to the coffers of the Federal Government.
